First A&E With Calming Lighting That Improves Patient Outcomes

NHS emergency departments work relentlessly to support our communities, and Sky Inside UK is helping to make these stressful environments that little bit easier to be in.

An A&E department in a major NHS Foundation Trust will be receiving 118 LED sky ceilings units. It will be the first installation of this size within emergency departments in the UK.

The installations will be carefully placed in the ceilings where the department is expanding its resuscitation area, examination bays and nurse work stations. They’ll soften the clinical environment and provide wellbeing benefits for patients undergoing emergency treatment.

These human-centric products display calming, natural images and are enhanced with specific levels of colour and light intensity – all of which reduce feelings of stress and anxiety and can even help lower the need for pain medication. Used across healthcare departments such as dementia care, critical care, paediatrics and now A&E, the effects are not only beneficial for patients but for staff and their morale too.

Also notable are how these feature ceilings are non-glossy, so do not reflect the situation below. This ensures patients retain their dignity in the busy and often traumatic departments.

Commenting on this innovative project and contract award, our Managing Director, Allan Sinclair, says: “It’s our utmost pleasure to be the preferred supplier of visual lighting products that truly help to improve patient outcomes. Not only because our products have proven clinical benefits for patient recovery and staff wellbeing, but also for their green credentials.

“All products are manufactured in the UK with a carbon footprint 70% less than imports from outside the UK. We employ a local distribution company to ensure multi-drop deliveries rather than inefficient single drops. The materials we use are from over 75% recycled sources and packaging is made of 100% recycled materials.

“We’re delighted that we can support this particular NHS Trust, knowing they chose our systems following medical validation and testimonials that show why we’re the premium brand for these solutions from across the UK.”
