Transforming Patient Experiences At The Brand New Dyson Cancer Centre

Sky Inside ™ is thrilled to work with the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath as they prepare to unveil the eagerly anticipated £50 million Dyson Cancer Centre later in April. As reported by the BBC, the new centre aims to redefine cancer treatment in the UK with a holistic approach and by turning a stressful environment into a sanctuary of healing and positivity.

Transforming Cancer Treatment Rooms

Sky Inside ™ has played a key role in creating a less stressful environment with one of our NHS-approved LED Living Skies ™ displays. Our product allows patients to choose a view to watch from their bed during cancer treatment, which could be anything from fish swimming in a tank to a snowy forest landscape. Patients can even select their own personal photographs and videos to display during treatment.

Cancer treatment rooms, like many healthcare settings, can be stressful, scary, and daunting places for patients and families. Additionally, many of these environments are windowless and patients often have to spend extended time inside without exposure to nature and natural light, both proven to have powerful healing properties.

ROH oncologist Prof Mark Beresford said to the BBC:

“We have got so many more treatments for patients and patients are doing much better, even with advanced disease, but that does mean that people are spending a lot of time in the hospital.

"Sometimes people with incurable cancer will spend many days of their final months here in the hospital, so it's really crucial that we have a nice environment for them.”

Improving Patient Experiences & Outcomes

By incorporating our LED Living Skies ™ displays - recognised as medical equipment - we will be helping to improve the patient experience and even outcomes in the new Dyson Cancer Centre. Our products are proven to:

-   Reduce stress and anxiety

-   Aid recovery

-   Maintain healthy sleeping patterns

-   Provide a positive, relaxing atmosphere

-   Create a healing environment

A Holistic Approach to Cancer Treatment

The Dyson Cancer Centre will be a three-story centre bringing together the majority of RUH’s cancer services under one roof, including research, oncology, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy services. It will also feature a 22 bed inpatient ward, counselling rooms, therapy spaces, and accommodation for patients’ friends and family. It will become a hub for more than 500,000 people in the South West with the space and facilities designed to make a world of difference to cancer patients and their loved ones.

Holistic care is central to the design philosophy of the Dyson Cancer Centre. Every decision has been made with the principle of creating a calm atmosphere for patients, which reflects the company mission at Sky Inside™. Sky Inside ™ are firm believers that environment has a significant impact on overall health and well-being, particularly when harnessing the power of nature.

Sky Inside ™ are proud to be a part of the RUH’s mission to create a cancer treatment center that will transform cancer care in this country and improve patient experiences and outcomes. With recent coverage by the BBC, the opening of the Dyson Cancer Centre will be a momentous day for the healthcare community.
